Managing Risk: Skip-Row Planting (Length: 9:40)
Bob Klein, cropping systems specialist at NU's West Central Research and Extension Center, talks about some new research involving skip-row planting and dryland corn. It appears that planting two rows and skipping two can improve yields under dry conditions. Klein talks about what the technique means in terms of plant populations and weed control measures. (Note: In NU's test plot, skip-row yields were approximately 33% higher than yields from dryland corn in a similar plot planted with 30-inch row spacing.)
